synopsis

In 2024, the Teleky-Wattay Castle hosted a prestigious autumn wedding exhibition, for which we were invited to create a special projection mapping decoration to make the event even more memorable. The castle’s impressive location—standing atop a hill—allowed us to highlight its beauty and historical significance with elegant light painting visible from afar.

Inspiration and Concept

Built in 1773 in Baroque style, the castle boasts a rich history. Our visual concept was therefore based on elegance and refinement befitting the occasion. Our goal was to reinterpret the classic wedding theme while avoiding clichés and kitsch solutions.

We drew inspiration from the architectural and decorative approach of Art Nouveau. With its organic shapes and ornamental artistry, Art Nouveau bridges the gap between nature and art, making it a perfect starting point for the abstract representation of floral motifs. The integration of Baroque elements, on the other hand, ensured harmony with the castle’s historical character: the dynamism, curving lines, and rich ornamentation of Baroque style seamlessly blended with the delicately gilded, stylized floral patterns.

Animation Concept

The projection mapping consisted of a continuously looped, infinite animation sequence with a slow, meditative pace, ensuring that the castle’s façade provided a breathtaking yet tranquil visual experience. The unfolding flowers seamlessly merged into one another, endlessly covering the surface with a harmonious rhythm.

The project included several different floral animations, each designed in a unique style, yet collectively forming a cohesive, painterly visual effect. Rather than using 3D-generated imagery, we opted for hand-crafted, painted-style animations to preserve the artwork’s individuality and reflect a high-quality, handmade aesthetic.

The Role of Projection Mapping in the Wedding Environment

The castle serves not only as a venue for cultural events but also regularly hosts weddings. Thus, the visual installation not only elevated the ambiance of the exhibition but also showcased the potential of the castle as a wedding venue. The organizers manage several other prestigious buildings, making our projection mapping both a reference and an example of how exclusive and unique visual elements can enhance wedding venues.

The artwork functioned as a full-evening visual installation that provided a complete experience even without music, creating a serene and pleasant atmosphere around the castle. With meticulously crafted animations and carefully selected light effects, the building came to life, serving as a stunning backdrop for this elegant event.
