synopsis

"The Jenő Mill, built in the northern part of the Tata English Garden, belonged to the Esterházy estate. The building, which is currently under monument protection, was built in the 13th century by the Esterházy family.

The freestanding, rectangular-shaped, one-story mill building with a gable roof had significant economic importance in the 1800s, with a narrower, single-story extension attached to it from the northwest, and with a red limestone sluice and modern extension added to its southeast corner. The mill was once powered by the water of the Pokol Spring. It was rented by the Muraközy family in 1890, and then by Bálint Lampert from 1900 to 1920. In 1930, it was converted into an ice factory, then served as a warehouse from 1948, and later operated as a pump house. By the end of the 20th century, its condition had deteriorated to the point where it had to be closed.

As part of the third phase of the English Garden rehabilitation project, initiated in November 2021, the monument-protected Jenő Mill was restored to its original state, including the original mill structure. The building houses an exhibition, and in the central room, an interactive space allows visitors to learn about the internal workings and processes of the mills in Tata.
The aim of the rehabilitation project was to present visitors with a local industrial and cultural attraction based on the area's characteristics, which could offer program opportunities for all age groups, either on its own or in conjunction with other tourist attractions in Tata.

In the renovated Jenő Mill exhibition space, visitors can see the original water mill structure, and in the story room designed for children, they can watch an animated projection created by Varyou Vision Ltd., depicting the legend of the mill - the story of Jenke."
